These were taken up where Bill is working off and on during this winter, in Kaktovik, AK. It is a 3 year project, moving their airport inland as the current one is surrounded by water on 3 sides and the seawalls are crumbling, so moving inland 2-3 miles. Remember this is their life-line to outside food, mail, snowmachines, 4×4’s (no roads!) and things like heating fuel and generators. They can only work in the winter due to the tundra, etc The hotel he is staying in. like most villages, are Connex work buidlings strung togther.
This blog will show you photos from his first visit (before they “found his marbles” hiding in a nasty gall bladder and was medivac’d out for surgery – no worries: 3 days later he was splitting firewood!! No restrictions!) The next time I blog I will have photos of what a blizzard from the top of the world look like, as he’s been in blizzard conditions the last 3 days – minus 50 with 60mph winds! The animal is an Arctic Fox; the Aurora’s were amazing – and how many people can say they’ve seen them from the TOP of the world – LITERALLY?! The other photo show sunset with icebergs, and then how flat it really is…..that area isn’t a ‘tourist destination’- think ANWR.
