see who stopped by for lunch today!

You never know just who might pop in for lunch these days – especially because we live at the very end of a lonnnng road. Visitors are usually of the lost kind or the hearty of soul who will dare our road in the depths of winters – especiallay like this one!
We’ve  heard from more than one of you asking when are we going to ‘share’ our snow, so for those of you who are finally enjoying the white stuff – no more complaining, y’hear?! I know, you would have liked a ‘White Christmas” but I didn’t hear many complaints about you being able to take your walks in shirts sleeves and light hoodies and sunglasses! Or driving over the passes without worrying about avalanches!!
We are measuring our snow by the moose bellies – so we figure we have 4-5 feet in the untouched places – a bit less where the walking paths have been forged. We appreciate everyone’s concern – no, we are not like Cordova or Valdez where they are literally digging out of their houses – although there WERE folks in Anchorage who got drifted in when we had 2 rounds of over 100 mph winds. When the windows start bowing in and out you know it is howling pretty hard. But this IS Alaska, and this is HOME and where we CHOOSE to live, so no complaints from here.  Down booties, hand warmers and block heaters so your car will start are staples, and we go out even when it is 25 below (which is has been for the last 2 weeks – we had a heat wave and got up to plus 4 one day, but minus 27 that night!)
We celebrate one year of Care’s Corner and the book being available. This year’s focus will be on speaking, marketing and PR. I have been on the Rotary rounds, in schools, several church groups, Red Hat group and looking forward to several other large events locally that I have been asked to be keynote speaker at.  Books are in local book stores and we hope that 2012 will find us on Amazon and hopefully ebook – until then, if you are not local you can still order through www.caretuk.com
Stay tuned – I hope to post more frequently, now that all the medical mazes have been successfully mastered. Bill is on the mend after his knee surgery, and I can now say I’m  2 years post diagnosis and so far cancer free! The rhizotomies (cutting/burning  of C2-C7 neck nerves) have made a tremendous difference, and we are glad we made the Seattle orthopedic physicians prodded us to choose this route to stave off for awhile more neck fusion and  to go ahead with #100 and #101…..not that we were looking to break THAT record!
So all is well up in the Great White North. We are toasty and the neighbors chomp/soar by every day, evening up the willows and our now lilac bushes (once trees). We have about 8 resident moose, 7 eagles and a pesky pack of busy beavers…..life is good. Hope you are too!
