Resurfacing

My husband has been working on road projects this summer, watching/inspecting as workers prepare and resurface roads, or build new roads as our area grows. It got me thinking about maybe it’s time for ME to inspect the road/path I’m travelling, checking the condition it’s in.
My body reminds me it might not be a bad idea. I look in the mirror and ponder “Who is THAT?!” looking back at myself. As I’ve said more than a few times, with all my mechanical body parts:  “Just take me to Jiffy Lube”! Get the oil changed, lube up the old joints, and get me ready for the next new season!”

Working on being ‘re-surfaced’, being rolled over and realigned, getting new parts,  there are days I scream: “GET ME OFF THE GRID!” This road is fine with all my potholes and titanium!“. On those days, I take a break and walk to the river. Getting my perspective back, I remind myself re-paving takes time. I sit down at the computer. I know I need not only new gravel in spots and re-paved, but  some new roads leading to new places /people are needed as well.
We have always believed in the adage “support the locals”. We did that with Book One, Loose Screws and Skinned Knees. We worked with close family  friends and their networks. Book Two, And Yet Another Day, will be done with a new (to me)  road crew and their network based here in the Mat-Su.

The new team has this old gray mare upgrading computer programs and software. I will soon have a new blog host (don’t worry, I’ll let you know where to find Care’s Corner when the time comes!) For this semi-techno-literate “Gamma/Nana, I’ve needed to   increase the amount of time I talk. (Lord, please say it ain’t so! Care? Talk MORE?!) I’m usually saying “HELP!!!” as the team gets me through yet another ‘new traffic pattern’.  My chemo-damaged vocal chords make my voice sound a bit more like D-1 gravel!

Care’s Corner will have a new webhost; an IT team will be adding links to an updated Care’s Corner website, including links to my hubby and son’s new adventure and offering you access to their part of Care’s Corner: “What I See Photography.” Our daughter and son-in-law’s addition isn’t due until December, so you will have to wait for the photos of our granddaughter until then!

A lull in my ‘resurfacing project’  has brought MAJOR personal season changes, barely allowing me to have time to come up for air. All this time I’ve been “radio silent” I bet you thought I was just off playing in the quickly fading Alaska summer light, being a ‘Toys R Us’ Gamma/Nana, blowing bubble gum hearts, sitting around eating bon-bons,  and watching the Olympics!
Nope! I’m working on adjusting, continuing to contend with the after effects of chemo and adding more ‘bionics’ to my body.  With the effects of the exposure to DES, my neck and back have now self-fused to the point I can no longer drive.  Try THAT one out for a ‘new road’ to travel on! As the seasons change, so will I, as I learn lessons of humility, add networks and let others help me more, as my body learns to adapt to do things differently, travelling over new roads and traffic patterns!
