Flat Natalie arrived in January from my great niece Natalie, who attends Mrs. Johnson’s 1st-2nd grade class at Bellevue Christian School in Bellevue, WA. The photo above is not what Natalie arrived in – but it was minus 10 the day this photo was taken, so I got her an Aleut parka to wear when we went out for recess (aka take Bubba for a 20 min walk/race around the 20 acres!)
Flat Natalie is after the children’s book Flat Stanley, and often classes send “Flat Stanley’s” to see how many places they can be sent to, terrain seen, historic places, etc. We asked for special permission to keep Flat Natalie all month as we just happen to be going around various parts of Alaska, plus have sent copies of Flat Natalie to friends so they will email photos back from where they live and a little bit about it. I am planning to make a Power-point for the kids, plus send some Alaskan items from fresh beaver shavings off the river, porcupine quills from the bugger who got stuck in our wood shed, to hopefully some reindeer antlers! So if you so desire before March 1st, send me a photo! We have Iron Dog starting this weekend, and Iditarod coming up fast, too! So – I don’t think Flat Natalie will be bored! Plus I go to Juneau (our capitol) next week with the Cancer Society and Bill will be heading up to Kaktovik for two rounds of 4 weeks on, 2 off in March and April/May – they are moving their airport more inland due to erosion. Look on a map – think ANWR and the most N and W and not be in the Yukon!! Stay tuned!!
